Patna: Indian Railways is exploring the possibility of introducing the “Namo Bharat” (Vande Metro) train service on an additional route in Bihar in the coming days. This move aims to optimize the utilization of the Vande Metro rake that currently serves the Jaynagar route.
The Vande Metro train, which operates between Jaynagar and Patna Junction, currently has an eight-hour layover at Patna Junction.
It arrives in Patna at 10:00 AM and departs for Jaynagar around 6:00 PM. Indian Railways is now preparing to utilize this idle time by running the train to another city, a development confirmed by Adhar Raj, ADRM of the Danapur Rail Division.
New Routes Under Consideration
Raj informed the media that railways are considering operating the “Namo Bharat” train from Patna to either Gaya or Buxar. Feasibility studies are currently underway for both routes. The service will be launched on the route deemed most suitable and convenient for operation.
Designed for shorter inter-city travel, the fully air-conditioned “Namo Bharat” train offers fares starting from Rs 85 and going up to a maximum of Rs 340.
Buxar Route Appears More Likely
Railway sources suggest that the Buxar route is a stronger contender. Operating the train between Buxar and Jaynagar would allow over 500 passengers from key stations like Ara and Buxar to benefit from the service. The existing “Namo Bharat” train running between Jaynagar and Patna comprises 16 coaches, with the potential to add two more coaches if needed. Currently, more than two thousand passengers travel on these coaches simultaneously.
