Patna: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in the Barh subdivision of Patna, Bihar, after being struck by speeding vehicles on Sunday. In both cases, the drivers fled with their vehicles, leaving behind grieving families and unanswered questions.
The first fatality occurred near Belaur village, under the Barh police station area. Chandan Kumar, 25, had gone to a nearby village around 6pm on Sunday to collect his wages. When he failed to return home, his family grew anxious. By Monday morning, his body was found on the side of a four-lane road. His mother, Parvati Devi, believes her son was hit by a speeding vehicle. Chandan had already endured a difficult life – his father had passed away, one brother is mentally ill and missing, while another works in Delhi. The family, now devastated, is seeking justice.
The second incident took place near Saidpur village in the Salimpur police station area. Manju Devi, 50, was attempting to cross the road when she was hit by another speeding vehicle. She died on the spot. Her nephew, Pawan Kumar, said she had been on her way to her maternal home for her niece’s wedding. What was meant to be a joyful family occasion turned into a tragedy in seconds.
In both cases, the vehicles involved fled immediately after the collisions. Police are now trying to identify and locate the drivers. The accidents have once again highlighted the alarming issue of speeding and hit-and-run cases on Bihar’s highways, where pedestrians and local residents remain extremely vulnerable.
