Patna: A fire broke out on the Patna-Jasidih MEMU train (number 13208) at Jamui railway station in Bihar on Tuesday, causing panic among passengers. The incident happened around 2pm, when the train was standing on platform number 2. Smoke was first seen coming from the connecting wire between two coaches, and within minutes, flames appeared.
Seeing the smoke and fire, passengers quickly got off the train and ran for safety. Some left their luggage behind as they tried to escape. The situation became tense, but thankfully, no one was injured. Railway workers, officials, and the fire brigade team reached the spot quickly and were able to bring the fire under control.
Station manager Nitish Kumar said the fire started between two bogies near the outer signal of the station. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause, though officials are still investigating. After the fire was controlled, railway officers used a microphone to inform passengers that it was safe and everything was under control.
Interestingly, this same train had caught fire earlier at Kiul station, raising concerns about its safety. For now, railway staff are working to remove the burnt coaches and resume train operations. Passengers have been asked to stay calm as officials continue their investigation and take steps to avoid such accidents in the future.
