Bihar: Negligence at Patna Airport Amidst Rising COVID Cases, Health Advisory Ignored

PATNA: In light of the surging COVID cases across various cities in the country, Bihar has intensified its vigilance efforts. With three confirmed cases in the state, all having a travel history, a directive was issued to monitor individuals arriving in Patna. The Health Department’s Additional Chief Secretary, Pratyaya Amrit, mandated random sampling of passengers at Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga airports to curb the potential spread of the virus.

However, a concerning lapse in protocol has emerged at Patna Airport. Despite explicit instructions, no investigations or random sampling procedures are being conducted at the airport. While a counter has been designated for these purposes, the personnel required for checks are notably absent. Airport staff mentioned that investigating personnel are expected but have not been present to date.

Amidst the backdrop of growing concerns about the new variant of COVID, JN-1, health experts advise caution rather than panic. The symptoms associated with this variant primarily include cold and cough, with an absence of fever. Pregnant women and children are urged to exercise heightened caution.

Despite these warnings, adherence to COVID protocols seems to be lacking, particularly at Patna Airport. The Airport Authority has refrained from commenting on the matter, raising questions about the efficacy of the implemented measures.

Health Advisory Remains Crucial
Experts emphasize the importance of adhering to the COVID protocol diligently. Wearing masks when outside the house is essential, along with regular hand washing for at least 20 seconds or the use of hand sanitizers. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as cold and cough are urged to undergo testing promptly.
