PATNA – Incidents of attacks on the police in the western area of Patna district have persisted for the second consecutive day. On Tuesday, a group attacked the police from Maner police station, who were dispatched to mediate a dispute between two parties. Inspector Ranjit Kumar Yadav, along with his team, was subjected to physical assault, resulting in injuries and damage to their uniform.
During the altercation, the police jeep also suffered damage due to stone pelting. In response, the police promptly arrested Jai Kumar Nirala, the husband of former Mukhiya Priyanka Kumari, on charges of assaulting the police. The situation in the area remains tense following the incident, prompting an increase in patrolling as a precautionary measure.
City SP Rajesh Kumar reported that one suspect has been apprehended, and efforts to locate and apprehend others involved in the attack are ongoing. Legal actions are being taken against the accused.
The clash erupted in Khaspur village late in the evening when the police received information about a dispute between two parties. Inspector Ranjit Kumar Yadav arrived at the scene to investigate the matter, only to discover an ongoing feud between Ramanand Chaudhary and Jai Kumar Nirala. When the Inspector approached Nirala to inquire, Nirala, along with his supporters, entered Ramanand’s house and physically assaulted him in the presence of the police.
Upon raising objections, Inspector Yadav faced resistance from Nirala and his supporters, resulting in a physical altercation. The inspector’s uniform was torn during the scuffle. As the situation escalated, bystanders began pelting stones, causing damage to the police jeep’s glass.
Despite the volatile situation, the police managed to apprehend Nirala, preventing his escape from the scene. He was subsequently taken to the police station for further proceedings.
It is noteworthy that this incident follows a recent attack on Sunday, where miscreants assaulted Inspector Phulan Ram of Beur police station while looting a telecom tower guard. The police retaliated, leading to the arrest of three criminals with weapons and cartridges, while four others managed to escape.
