JDU National President Lalan Singh Resigns; Nitish Kumar Unanimously Elected as New Chief

DELHI – The national executive meeting of the Janata Dal United (JDU) concluded today in Delhi with a significant development—the resignation of JDU National President Lalan Singh. In a unanimous decision, the party leaders elected Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as the new president.

In a press conference following the meeting, senior leader KC Tyagi announced the endorsement of the National Executive’s decision, highlighting Nitish Kumar’s unanimous election after Lalan Singh’s resignation.

Responding to the news, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav expressed his view, stating that if Nitish Kumar assumes the presidency of his party, it is an internal decision of the JDU. He acknowledged Nitish Kumar’s previous tenure as the JDU President, recognizing him as a senior leader of the party.

Commenting on the development, Bihar BJP President Samrat Chaudhary described Nitish Kumar as a “private limited party” and dismissed speculations about Nitish Kumar rejoining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), stating that there is no such discussion taking place.

JDU leader Vijay Chaudhary shed light on the reasons behind Lalan Singh’s resignation, citing Singh’s aspiration to actively participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Singh, desiring to contest elections, found his responsibilities as party president to be increasingly demanding. Vijay Chaudhary noted that Singh had long been advocating for the Chief Minister’s resignation.

JDU leader KC Tyagi outlined the agenda of the National Executive meeting, emphasizing discussions on the current political scenario, the country’s financial environment, and seat distribution in various states. The meeting also aimed to address key issues, including JDU’s stance on the Lok Sabha elections and its role in India.

Delhi JDU State President Shailendra Kumar expressed optimism about Nitish Kumar assuming control of the party, asserting that it would contribute to the party’s development and progression.

The primary agenda of the National Executive meeting focused on discussions related to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party aimed to finalize its approach and issues to be presented to the public during the elections. Additionally, JDU expressed strong objections to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s proposal of Mallikarjun Kharge as the Prime Ministerial candidate during a meeting in Delhi.
