Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for four seats in the upcoming Bihar Legislative Council elections, naming Nawal Kishor Yadav for the Patna Teachers’ constituency.
The party has also fielded N K Yadav from the Kosi Graduates’ constituency, Sarvesh Kumar from the Darbhanga Graduates’ constituency and Narendra Pratap Singh from the Tirhut Teachers’ constituency. The BJP’s candidate list was reported on September 26.
RJD Candidate Files Nomination In Patna
On the first day of the nomination process, RJD candidate Dr Sanjeev Kumar Singh filed his nomination for the Patna Teachers’ constituency.
He reached the Patna divisional commissioner’s office to submit his nomination, accompanied by RJD leaders and supporters.
The nomination process for the eight Bihar Legislative Council seats began with the election schedule announced by the Election Commission. The formal notification is due on September 29, with candidates allowed to file nominations until October 6.
Eight Legislative Council Seats Going To Polls
The election covers eight seats, divided equally between Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies.
The four Graduate constituencies are:
- Patna Graduates
- Darbhanga Graduates
- Tirhut Graduates
- Kosi Graduates
The four Teachers’ constituencies are:
- Patna Teachers
- Darbhanga Teachers
- Tirhut Teachers
- Saran Teachers
The terms of the sitting members from these constituencies are due to expire on November 16, 2026.
JDU Had Earlier Announced Four Candidates
The Janata Dal (United) had announced candidates for four constituencies earlier.
The party has fielded Neeraj Kumar from Patna Graduates, Ghanshyam Rai from Darbhanga Graduates, Abhishek Jha from Tirhut Graduates and Anand Pushkar from Saran Teachers.
The Patna Graduates’ constituency has also drawn attention after JDU MLA Anant Singh publicly announced support for Jan Suraaj candidate Dr Anuj Singh, despite Neeraj Kumar being the JDU’s official candidate.
Polling On October 23
According to the Election Commission’s schedule, polling for all eight seats will take place on October 23 from 8 am to 4 pm.
The scrutiny of nominations will be held on October 7, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 9.
Votes will be counted and the results declared on October 27. The entire election process is scheduled to be completed by October 31.
The election will be conducted through the Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies rather than the general electorate used in Assembly elections. The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the constituencies covered by the election schedule.
