Patna: Patna University commenced its undergraduate admissions on Thursday following the release of its first merit list, drawing students from across Bihar to colleges with their documents in hand. While the first day saw a moderate turnout, concerns have been raised over instances of students allegedly submitting fraudulent academic scores in their application forms.
The revelations have sparked criticism from student representatives and counselors, who fear that such malpractice could unfairly displace deserving candidates. Sudarshan Kumar, a counselor at Patna College, expressed strong disapproval, warning of a student-led protest if corrective action is not taken. “The university must cancel the enrolment of those found guilty of falsifying marks. Their actions jeopardise the future of honest students,” he said.
The university administration responded by stating that document verification will be conducted rigorously at the college level. “Any student found to have entered incorrect marks will have their admission cancelled and will be blacklisted from future merit lists,” a university official confirmed.
For many students, admission to Patna University represents both a milestone and a launchpad for further aspirations. Roshan Kumar, who has enrolled in Sociology Honours, said, “This university is the dream of many in Bihar. I’m here with all my documents and plan to prepare for BPSC alongside regular classes.”
Officials clarified that any seat vacated due to disqualification will be offered to the next eligible student in line. The university aims to maintain transparency and fairness throughout the admission process as it continues over the coming weeks.
