Patna: The Department of Gastro Surgery at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, conducted a two-day advanced surgical training programme titled “CREST” on June 13 and 14, aimed at enhancing laparoscopic skills among surgeons. The workshop drew participation from across the country, including Odisha, Kashmir, Jharkhand, Patna and Muzaffarpur, with seven surgeons undergoing intensive hands-on learning.
Inaugurating the programme, IGIMS Director Prof (Dr) Manish Mandal underlined the growing importance of laparoscopic surgery in modern healthcare. As part of the training, participants observed and engaged with eight live laparoscopic procedures for colorectal cancer, offering them critical insights into minimally invasive surgical techniques.
The sessions were led by senior faculty members from IGIMS, including Dr Sanjay Kumar, Dr Saket Kumar, and Dr Rakesh Kumar Singh. Dr Amarjeet Kumar Raj also played a key role in coordinating the workshop, ensuring a smooth and effective learning environment for all attendees.
Sponsored by Ethicon, a leading name in surgical technologies, the CREST programme marked a significant step forward for surgical education in Bihar and eastern India. Organisers noted that this initiative is part of a broader effort to equip the next generation of surgeons with specialised technical skills in gastrointestinal and oncological surgery.
