Patna: The First Bihar State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament began on June 18 at the indoor stadium of the Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna, with participation from more than 250 players representing 17 districts across the state. The tournament, set to run until June 22, marks a major step forward in the promotion of table tennis in Bihar.

According to Bihar State Sports Authority Director General Ravindran Shankar, this is the first in a series of five competitions — four state ranking events and one state championship — that will determine the selection of the Bihar State Table Tennis Team. The top five players across these events, based on cumulative points, will be selected to represent Bihar at the national level.

Renowned Indian table tennis player and Padma Shri awardee Sharad Kamal will attend the tournament as the chief guest. Organisers have arranged full accommodation, food, and other facilities for the players through support from the government and the Sports Authority.

Districts represented include Araria, Saharsa, Gayaji, Darbhanga, Khagaria, Muzaffarpur, West Champaran, Madhubani, Samastipur, Purnia, Madhepura, Bhagalpur, Nalanda, Supaul, Saran, Bhojpur, and Patna.
