Vigilance Raids Retired Officer’s Home Over Disproportionate Assets Allegations in Bihar’s Begusarai

Vigilance raids retired CO Ajay Kumar Rai’s properties in Bihar over Rs 46 lakh disproportionate assets case.

Begusarai: A retired Circle Officer (CO) in the district has come under the scanner of the Vigilance Department for alleged accumulation of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. On Tuesday, officials raided the ancestral home of Ajay Kumar Rai in Samsipur village, Begusarai district, as well as two locations in Patna.
The raids were carried out following a search warrant issued by the Special Vigilance Court. Rai, who previously served as the Circle Officer of Hajipur Sadar, is accused of amassing illicit assets valued at Rs 46.43 lakh. Police personnel accompanied the vigilance team during the operation, which lasted approximately two and a half hours at his ancestral property.

Locals reported a sense of panic as officers cordoned off the area, restricting movement and access. During the raid, the team reportedly seized household items including a cupboard, a bed, and a bedsheet, though the purpose of taking such items remains unclear.

Ajay Kumar Rai, who recently retired, has not lived in his ancestral village home for over two decades, according to villagers. His father, the late Ram Babu Rai, served as the Sarpanch of Dadupur Panchayat. Ajay Rai is said to have only returned to the village for family functions and domestic occasions.

The Vigilance Department has not yet made an official statement regarding the findings from the raid.
