Patna: Speculation is rife in Bihar’s political circles over the potential entry of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, into active politics ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. A fresh push for Nishant’s political debut is gaining traction within the Janata Dal (United), with senior party MLA Vinay Kumar Chaudhary preparing to formally propose his induction at the next legislative party meeting.
Chaudhary, the JD(U) legislator from Benipur in Darbhanga, confirmed he has drafted a proposal urging Nishant Kumar to step into public life and said he would be placing it before the party’s legislative body soon. “This is not just my personal request—it’s the collective demand of Bihar,” he said. “People across the state want Nishant ji to lead from the front.”
Chaudhary also stated that he has already met Nishant Kumar to convey the expectations of party workers. “He laughs it off for now,” Chaudhary added, “but I will also speak to the Chief Minister about this soon.”
Though Nishant Kumar has largely stayed out of the political spotlight, preferring a low-profile life away from party affairs, party insiders believe his entry could re-energise JD(U)’s cadre base as it seeks to strengthen its footing amid shifting alliances and the looming assembly polls.
Highlighting the sentiment within the party, Chaudhary claimed, “Nishant Kumar can win an election from any constituency in Bihar. He enjoys goodwill as Nitish ji’s son and can build on his legacy.”
Backing Chaudhary’s call, Nalanda MP Kaushalendra Kumar has also openly supported Nishant Kumar’s potential candidacy, lending further weight to growing murmurs within the JD(U) over a generational transition.
While Nishant Kumar has yet to make any official comment, observers say his political entry, if confirmed, could significantly alter the dynamics within Bihar’s ruling coalition and provide a fresh narrative to the JD(U)’s campaign in the run-up to the elections.
