Four air conditioners stolen from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur DRDA office despite round-the-clock security

AC thefts plague Muzaffarpur Collectorate despite security; police probe CCTV footage to identify culprits.

Muzaffarpur: Thieves have stolen four air conditioners from the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) office situated within the high-security Collectorate premises in Muzaffarpur. The theft has raised serious concerns about security lapses, as the premises are guarded by security personnel and house key government offices.

According to reports, the culprits dismantled the outer units of the air conditioners and cut through the gas pipes before making off with the equipment. CCTV footage from the office premises reportedly shows a man in the act of cutting the AC pipes. The video is currently being analysed by police in an effort to identify the suspect.

Ashish Thakur, an accountant at the DRDA office, has submitted a formal complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), highlighting the recurring nature of such thefts. “AC pipes have been stolen earlier as well. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred,” Thakur stated, urging authorities to take urgent action. Despite the presence of a dedicated security team on the Collectorate campus and the 24-hour functioning of the District Communication Centre, such incidents continue to occur. The DRDA office also houses the Public Information Room (PIR), making the breach particularly alarming.

This latest theft follows a similar incident in which wires were stolen from the air conditioning system of the Collectorate hall. Police investigations are ongoing.
