Nalanda: An unidentified elderly man has been found dead in bushes near Lakhrama village in Bihar’s Nalanda district, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.

The discovery was made after local villagers alerted authorities on Monday morning. Officers from Deepnagar police station recovered the body and sent it to Bihar Sharif Model Hospital for postmortem examination.

Eyewitnesses reported visible signs of trauma, including a ruptured eye and a black mark around the neck, raising suspicions of death by strangulation. The man, believed to be in his 60s or 70s, was dressed in a lungi and shirt. However, police have so far been unable to confirm the cause of death.

“There are no visible injury marks on the body, which was found wet. We are awaiting the postmortem report to determine the exact cause,” said Jitendra Ram, officer-in-charge of Deepnagar police station.

Efforts are under way to identify the deceased. Police are preserving the body for 72 hours and have circulated information to nearby stations. Authorities have also turned to social media in an attempt to gather clues from the public.
