Patna: In a significant political development ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad has been re-elected unopposed as the party’s national president for the 13th consecutive term. The veteran leader was the sole candidate to file nomination papers, and no withdrawal was made during the stipulated period, confirming his unchallenged position at the helm of the party.
RJD’s National Election Officer, Ramchandra Purbey, officially declared the result on Tuesday following scrutiny of the nomination documents. “Lalu Prasad has been elected as the National President of Rashtriya Janata Dal for the 13th consecutive time. All four copies of the nomination were found valid and no other nomination was filed,” Purbey said.
The formal announcement of Lalu Prasad’s election and the presentation of the election certificate will take place at the RJD National Council meeting on July 5 at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna. The party will also hold an open session under the chairmanship of the newly elected president following the ceremony.
Lalu Prasad had submitted his nomination on June 23. Despite facing legal and health challenges in recent years, he continues to be the central figure in RJD’s organisational and ideological framework. His re-election reaffirms his grip on the party’s leadership, even as his son and Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, has emerged as the face of the party’s electoral campaign in Bihar.
