Patna: A woman’s body was discovered in a field near Patna with her face and upper body severely burnt, in what police believe was a deliberate attempt to prevent identification. The incident has caused widespread shock in the local community.
The body, believed to be that of a woman in her 30s, was found in Basiyawan Khandha, under the Pipra police station area in Punpun, on the outskirts of Patna. Villagers alerted the authorities after spotting the remains in an isolated area around 1.5 kilometres from the Bihta-Sarmera State Highway-78.
Police suspect the woman was murdered elsewhere and her body transported during the night before being dumped in the field. “It appears the perpetrators used an inflammable substance to burn the face, likely to hinder identification,” said RK Pal, the officer-in-charge of Pipra police station.
No bloodstains or personal belongings were found at the scene, further suggesting the body was moved post-mortem. A forensic team was deployed to the site, collecting samples for further investigation.
