Patna: The Education Department of Bihar Celebrates Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Day on July 1 at its departmental auditorium, highlighting the urgent need for rainwater harvesting in government educational institutions.
The event was inaugurated by Abhilasha Sharma, Mission Director of the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Mission, who began the programme by offering water to a plant. Addressing the gathering, Abhilasha emphasised that Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan is a comprehensive and multidimensional campaign aimed at protecting humanity from the adverse effects of environmental and climate change. She underscored that rooftop rainwater harvesting is a critical measure to address the state’s changing water scenario.
“The education department has played an important role since the inception of this campaign by ensuring public participation through awareness programmes in schools and colleges,” she said. “Our objective is to make the youth aware of the utility and benefits of rainwater harvesting so that future water challenges can be tackled effectively.”
Children from Kilkari presented poems and songs on tree plantation, water conservation, and sparrow conservation, reinforcing the campaign’s environmental message.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Mission Director Ram Kumar Poddar, Deputy Secretary Krishna Uroy, and Assistant State Project Director Dilip Kumar highlighted the importance of rainwater harvesting and water management measures to make Bihar a water-sufficient state in the coming years.
Officials and employees from various implementing departments were also present at the event, reaffirming their commitment to spreading awareness and executing rooftop rainwater harvesting structures across educational institutions in Bihar.
