Nalanda: A shocking murder has been reported in Gowachak village under Sarmera police station in Bihar’s Nalanda district. On Tuesday evening, 55-year-old Anganwadi assistant Kevala Devi was found dead at the door of her house. Her body was lying face down with her face blackened and her left hand broken. Police believe she was strangled to death by unidentified people.
Her daughter, Chandni Devi, told police that her mother had an argument with an Anganwadi worker on Monday. The worker’s family wanted Kevala Devi to resign so that their daughter-in-law could get the assistant post. There was also a long-running dispute over a piece of land near their house, which often led to fights in the village.
Chandni said she last spoke to her mother on June 30. When she could not contact her on July 1, she sent her cousin to check on her on July 2. It was then that the family found her dead at the door. Kevala Devi had been living alone for the last ten years. She had three sons and three daughters, all married and living away from home.
Sarmera police station in-charge Sakendra Kumar Bind said the body was sent for post-mortem to Bihar Sharif and the forensic team has been called for investigation. He said it appears to be a murder case, and further action will be taken once the family files a formal complaint.
