Patna: The Bihar government has expressed strong displeasure at the slow pace of work on two major infrastructure projects – the Amas-Darbhanga Expressway and Ram Janaki Marg – and has warned of action against the agencies involved.
At a Project Monitoring Group meeting held on July 2, Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena reviewed the progress of both projects and found it unsatisfactory. Officials said the government is considering confiscating the security deposits of the agencies, cancelling their contracts, and floating new tenders to reassign the work.
The 189-km Amas-Darbhanga Expressway is part of the Bharatmala project and will connect Amas in Gaya district with Darbhanga in North Bihar. Divided into three construction packages – Amas to Shivrampur, Shivrampur to Ramnagar, and Bidupur to Tal Dussehra – the project was targeted for completion by the end of 2025. However, with the current pace, officials say it is unlikely to meet the deadline.
Similarly, the government is planning action against the agency working on the Siwan to Mashrakh section of Ram Janaki Marg due to slow progress. Ram Janaki Marg aims to connect Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh with Janakpur in Nepal via Sitamarhi, strengthening religious and regional connectivity. In Bihar, it will run from Hamidpur in Gopalganj district to Sursand and Bhittha Mor in Sitamarhi district.
Officials warned that unless the pace improves significantly, contracts could be revoked and new agencies appointed to ensure timely delivery.
