Patna: Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has raised serious questions on the ongoing voter list revision in the state. He said on Wednesday that in the name of voter revision, the Election Commission is removing the names of poor people. According to him, this will stop their pension and free ration benefits. He also said that all ruling parties are silent on this issue before the state assembly elections later this year.
Tejashwi alleged that the Election Commission is working like an agent of the BJP. He said, “First they will remove the names of the poor from the voter list, then they will end their pension, then they will stop their ration. BJP wants to impose President’s rule in Bihar.” He claimed that BJP is using the Election Commission because it is scared to face people directly. He added that his party had asked many questions to the Commission about this revision, but no answers were given.
The Election Commission started a special intensive revision of voters in Bihar last week. This process will continue for a month. Officials will visit homes to verify voter names, remove fake names, and add new voters. However, opposition parties believe this process is happening just before the elections to benefit the ruling party.
On Wednesday, leaders of the INDIA alliance went to the Election Commission office in Delhi to object to the revision. Leaders from 11 parties, including RJD, Congress, CPI, CPM, CPI(ML), and Samajwadi Party were present. Congress leaders said that the last voter list review was done in 2003, a year before the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. They alleged that revising the list just months before the Bihar elections is wrong and unfair.
