Patna: The Bihar government’s decision to reduce VAT on air turbine fuel (ATF) from 29% to 4% has led to a significant rise in aircraft movements at Patna Airport.
Officials reported that daily aircraft operations have now crossed 100, compared to around 80 flights earlier. This comes after the state cabinet approved the VAT reduction in June to promote air connectivity.
Data shows ATF sales rose by 134% in June, increasing from 2,318.20 kilolitres in May to 5,920.38 kilolitres. The new ultramodern terminal building at Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport, inaugurated on May 30, is also contributing to the boost in operations.
Developed at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore, the terminal is spread over 65,150 square metres and has an annual capacity of one crore passengers. Authorities believe the combined effect of infrastructure expansion and tax relief will significantly strengthen Bihar’s air connectivity in the coming months.
