Patna Municipal Corporation will install 3,750 new street lights in all 75 wards by August 15 and has fined the agency Rs 19 crore for faulty lights.

Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation has announced plans to install 3,750 new street lights across all 75 wards by August 15 to address persistent lighting problems in the city. The corporation’s teams are currently working daily to repair faulty street lights during the ongoing rainy season.

According to officials, 50 new lights will be installed in each ward, with EESL ensuring that the lights are made available by July 31. Installation work will begin immediately thereafter to complete the project before the upcoming festival season.

A recent survey conducted on the instructions of the municipal commissioner revealed numerous faulty street lights. Following inspections, a fine of around Rs 19 crore was imposed on the agency responsible for maintenance due to the poor condition of existing lights.

Executive engineer (electricity) Bablu Gupta stated that the primary objective is to ensure adequate lighting across all lanes and roads of Patna at the earliest.
