Patna: Twenty-one new electric crematoriums are set to become operational across Bihar from August as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to modernise cremation facilities and reduce pollution.
The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) is spearheading the project, which aims to provide both electric and traditional cremation options to the public. Construction is nearing completion, and officials confirm the sites will be ready for public use by next month.
A total of 40 such crematoriums are being constructed across the state, with 21 of them now in the final phase of development. The project is being carried out on a war footing across 13 districts in North Bihar and 7 districts in South Bihar.
A significant component of the initiative is a state-of-the-art crematorium near Bans Ghat in Patna, being built at a cost of Rs 89.4 crore. The site is expected to serve as a model for similar projects in the region.

- Kishanganj – Rs 4.6 crore
- Darbhanga – Rs 8.2 crore
- Siwan – Rs 8.07 crore
- Araria – Rs 4.25 crore
- Katihar – Rs 3.85 crore
- West Champaran – Rs 5.97 crore
- Saharsa – Rs 8.38 crore
- Samastipur –Rs 1.76 crore
- Begusarai – Rs 8.91 crore
- Khagaria – Rs 4.69 crore
South Bihar:
- Jehanabad – Rs 7.89 crore
- Arwal – Rs 3.91 crore
- Rohtas – Rs 4.06 crore
- Nalanda – Rs 7.70 crore
- Gaya – Rs 3.36 crore
- Bhagalpur – Rs 9.38 crore
- Ara – Rs 3.77 crore
BUIDCo Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar is personally overseeing the progress. Officials have been instructed to conduct daily monitoring via video conferencing to ensure both speed and quality in the construction process. Regular progress reports are being submitted to the managing director for review.
