Lakhisarai: Police in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district seized a huge amount of foreign liquor late on Sunday night. The truck was caught near Jamui turn in the market committee area. When police searched it, they found 4,666.6 litres of liquor packed in 527 cartons. This consignment was being sent for sale in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab.
Police officer Amit Kumar said they had received secret information about the smuggling. As soon as they got the tip-off, they started checking vehicles at night. The driver of the suspicious truck tried to run away, but police caught him after a short chase. When they opened the truck, they were shocked to see so much liquor hidden inside.
The driver has been identified as 30-year-old Krishna Dhiwar. Another person named Pintu Kumar was also caught from the truck. Both men have been taken into custody and police are questioning them to find out about the bigger smuggling network involved in this.
Police said that after this seizure, they are investigating to catch the liquor mafia behind this smuggling. Despite the strict liquor ban in Bihar, such cases continue to come up, showing how active the illegal liquor trade remains in the state.
