Patna: The Education Department of Bihar has ordered all government schools to ensure proper basic facilities before Independence Day. Dr S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary, sent a letter to all district education officers asking them to make sure schools are clean and safe for students and teachers. The goal is to complete the work before August 15, when schools will celebrate Independence Day.
According to the letter, many schools were found in poor condition during inspections. Toilets were dirty or broken, taps were not working, and classrooms had no working lights or fans. This is despite the fact that Rs 50,000 had already been given to each school to improve these basic needs. The department now wants proof that schools are making changes.
Dr Siddharth said that there should be three clean toilets each for boys and girls, and at least one toilet for female teachers in every school. He also asked schools to remove broken furniture and junk that is blocking classrooms and corridors. Schools should not use good classrooms to store waste while students sit in other poor conditions.
All schools must upload photos showing their clean premises and Independence Day celebrations on the e-Shikshakosh portal. The Education Department wants schools to be fully ready—with clean water, working lights, fans, and proper classrooms—for both students and teachers. The goal is to provide a better and healthier place to learn.
