Bettiah: Cyber fraudsters in Bihar have once again shown how bold they can be. This time, they created a fake Facebook account using the photo of Harkishore Rai, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Champaran Range. Through this account, they sent messages to people and asked them for money, pretending to be the DIG.
The Cyber Police found out about the scam and have registered an FIR. Inspector Rajiv Kumar from the Cyber Police Station said he got information online that a fake Facebook ID was made using the DIG’s name and profile photo. The fake account was used to send messages asking for money, even saying it was for buying furniture. This act could damage the DIG’s image and also cheat innocent people out of their money.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber) Gautam Sharan Omi said that a full investigation is underway. The police are working to catch the criminals behind the fake account. The DIG has also ordered strict action in this case. According to the FIR, this is not the first time someone has tried to cheat people by creating a fake account using the DIG’s name.
Such cases are becoming more common in Bihar. In the past too, cybercriminals have made fake social media accounts using the names of IAS and IPS officers. Police have warned the public not to trust such messages and to report any suspicious activity online.
