Patna: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recommended the registration of a fresh FIR against Tarini Das, the former Chief Engineer (Plan Cancellation) in Bihar’s Building Construction Department, intensifying its ongoing investigation into alleged corruption.
In a letter addressed to Pankaj Darad, Additional Director General of the Special Surveillance Unit (SVU), the ED has outlined its previous actions against Das and urged state authorities to initiate further legal proceedings. This comes months after an ED-led operation on March 27, which included raids on Das’s residence in Purnendu Nagar, Phulwarisharif, Patna, and the homes of several other senior officials.
During the raid, investigators recovered over Rs 11.64 crore in cash from various locations, including Rs 8.5 lakh allegedly seized from properties linked to Das. The action was part of a wider probe into suspected irregularities in government tenders and related activities. Following the raid, Das was booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
In response to the developments, the Building Construction Department terminated Das’s post-retirement contractual appointment the very next day.
