Bhagalpur: In a significant breakthrough against illicit liquor trade, Bhagalpur Police have intercepted a Scorpio SUV loaded with foreign liquor reportedly smuggled in from Jharkhand. One suspect has been arrested, while another managed to flee the scene.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities launched a vehicle-checking operation near Zero Mile Chowk in Bhagalpur. The operation was triggered by intelligence inputs indicating that a consignment of liquor was being transported from Godda district in Jharkhand to Navgachiya in Bihar.
During the operation, police signalled the vehicle to stop. However, in an attempt to evade arrest, the smugglers allegedly tried to divert the vehicle. Police personnel managed to apprehend one of the suspects while the other escaped. The SUV, along with the illegal consignment, was seized at the spot.
The arrested smuggler reportedly confessed during initial questioning that the liquor had been transported from Jharkhand via Godda and was destined for Navgachiya.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the smuggling network. Officials are currently probing the broader supply chain, seeking to identify the masterminds behind the operation and uncover potential links across state borders.
