Patna: More than 4,000 people in Ward No. 56 of Patna are trapped inside their homes due to heavy waterlogging. Continuous rain and poor drainage have caused water from other areas like Kankarbagh and Rajendra Nagar to flow into their colonies through the Paijawa canal. Water levels in the area have now reached up to five feet.
Many houses in colonies like Badi Pahari, Vihar Colony, Monalika Nagar, Mahuli and Marchamarcchi are submerged. Local residents say they have been stuck inside for over a day. Children are unable to attend school, and daily life has been completely disturbed. People are also worried about health and safety as the water keeps rising.
The Paijawa canal, which usually carries rainwater away from the city, was broken at three places to release water into the Badshahi Pan and canals. But the plan failed because the gates of the Punpun river, where the water was supposed to go, were closed due to rising river levels. As a result, the water flowed back into the residential colonies.
Balaram Mandal, the councilor representative of Ward 56, has asked the administration to send boats to help the residents. Locals are now demanding quick action, saying the flooding has made life impossible and urgent help is needed.
