Muzaffarpur: A fresh case of document fraud has come to light in Bihar with authorities uncovering an attempt to generate a fake residential certificate in the name of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The application, submitted online in Saraiya block of Muzaffarpur district, included the Chief Minister’s name and photograph, prompting officials to allege a deliberate attempt to malign his image.
The case came to light during a routine verification process by revenue officer Abhishek Singh, who promptly lodged an FIR at Saraiya police station on July 29. The application falsely listed “Nitish Kumari” as the applicant, with fabricated parent names — Lakhan Paswan and Lakiya Devi — and bore the photo of the Chief Minister in place of the applicant’s.
“The application appears to be part of a conspiracy to defame the Chief Minister and disrupt administrative credibility,” Singh noted in his complaint. The police have launched an investigation and are currently tracing the person behind the online submission.
This is the latest in a string of similar incidents that have plagued Bihar’s digital certification system. In recent months, authorities have encountered multiple fraudulent applications, including one for a dog in Patna, a tractor bearing the photo of Bhojpuri actress Monalisa in Motihari, and a fictitious person named “Dogesh Babu” in Nawada.
Each case triggered disciplinary action, with FIRs lodged and, in some instances, government employees suspended or arrested.
