Gorakhpur/Chhapra: A profound shock rippled through Gorakhpur Airport in Uttar Pradesh early Thursday morning when a Defence Security Corps (DSC) personnel fatally shot himself on duty. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on the runway, triggering immediate alarm and drawing swift response from authorities.
The deceased was identified as 49-year-old Jitendra Singh of Chhapra in Saran district in Bihar. A former Indian Army serviceman, he had been working as a security guard at the airport and was stationed in a rented house in the Jharna Tola area of Gorakhpur.
According to airport sources, Singh used his service rifle, an AK-103, to shoot himself. Nearby personnel rushed to the site upon hearing gunfire and found him mortally wounded. Medical staff pronounced him dead on the spot.
Authorities suspect family-related stress as the motive behind the tragic act. The police have taken charge of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Singh’s family has been informed and are travelling from Bihar to Gorakhpur.
