Patna: As the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar braces for a pivotal floor test on Monday, political maneuvers have intensified, with the JD(U) taking strategic measures to ensure the unity of its legislators.
On Monday night, the JD(U) relocated its MLAs to a private hotel, with sources indicating that they would proceed directly to the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday morning. Earlier in the day, a meeting of JD(U) MLAs convened at Minister Vijay Kumar Chowdhary’s residence in Patna. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was in attendance, urging party members to stand united and ensure punctual attendance at the assembly session.
Addressing concerns over the party’s strength, Nitish, also the JD(U) national president, expressed confidence in securing a majority during the floor test. However, speculations arose as four JD(U) MLAs were reportedly absent from the meeting, with sources claiming they were unreachable by phone.
Minister Vijay Chowdhary sought to allay fears, attributing the absence of the four MLAs to prior engagements, insisting that they had informed the party of their unavailability. “We are assured of proving our majority. Two-three MLAs did not come, but they had informed the party. All of them would be here by morning. Our (NDA) strength is 128, and we will prove it,” Chowdhary assured reporters.
