Patna: Bihar is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall across most areas between October 28 and November 1, with heavy showers, lightning and strong winds expected in some districts as a cyclonic system develops over the Bay of Bengal.

The Meteorological Centre in Patna has warned of winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h during the period. Purnia, Gaya and other districts have been identified as areas of concern, while parts of southern Bihar and the Seemanchal region could experience more pronounced effects.

Cyclonic System Developing Over Bay Of Bengal

According to an analysis of numerical weather models, a low-pressure area formed on October 23 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the southeastern and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, near the Andaman Islands. The circulation extends up to 5.8 km above sea level.

The system is likely to intensify into a depression by October 24 and a deep depression by October 25. It is then expected to develop into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26.

The storm may subsequently move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining southern Odisha. Its movement is expected to influence weather conditions in Bihar in the following days.

Southern Bihar And Seemanchal May See Heavy Rain

The active flow of easterly winds is increasing humidity across Bihar, creating conditions favourable for rainfall. While light to moderate showers are expected in most parts of the state, some locations may receive heavy rainfall.

The impact is likely to be more pronounced in areas bordering Jharkhand and West Bengal, particularly in southern Bihar and the Seemanchal region.

The weather department has highlighted the possibility of heavy rainfall on October 29 in Gaya, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Purnia and Kishanganj, as well as nearby areas.

Lightning and strong winds could disrupt normal activities in affected locations. Residents are advised to follow official weather updates and take precautions during thunderstorms.

Farmers Advised To Protect Harvested Crops

Dr Anand Shankar, a scientist at the Meteorological Department, has advised farmers to take precautions as the Kharif harvest season is under way.

Farmers have been urged to harvest mature crops and move them to safe storage wherever possible. Crops already harvested or left in the open to dry should be protected from rain and shifted to secure locations.

The scientist has also advised farmers to postpone harvesting if it is not essential during the period of adverse weather.

For vegetable crops, farmers have been advised to suspend irrigation temporarily in view of the expected rainfall.
