Nalanda: A big action against corruption took place in Nalanda district when the Vigilance Bureau arrested a Block Community Manager of the health department. The officer, Ashutosh Kumar, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 40,000. He had demanded the money from a woman for reinstating her as an Asha worker.
The case came to light after Rashida Parveen, a resident of Islampur Ward No. 20, complained to the Vigilance Bureau. She said the manager had asked her to pay Rs 40,000 to get selected again as an Asha worker. The bureau checked the complaint, set a trap, and caught the officer while he was taking the cash.
The arrest created panic in the local health department offices. Many employees and officers were shocked by the action. Local people expressed anger and said that if bribes are taken even in the process of selecting Asha workers, the common people will never get proper health facilities.
After the arrest, the Vigilance team completed the paperwork and took Ashutosh Kumar to Patna. Officials said strict action will be taken. The bureau has been carrying out regular operations in Bihar to catch corrupt officers, and this case has raised serious questions about honesty in the health system.
