Patna: The Bihar Postal Department has completed the mapping of more than 1 crore streets and mohallas across the state, paving the way for every house to receive a DigiPIN, a 10-digit digital postal index code. The initiative aims to improve mail and parcel delivery by providing postmen with exact live locations of homes via mobile devices.
Previously, delivery relied on traditional PIN codes, which often caused letters and parcels to be delayed or returned due to incomplete addresses. With DigiPIN, each house is uniquely identified within a 4-metre radius, allowing postmen to reach the correct destination quickly and efficiently.
The Bihar Circle, comprising 30 postal divisions, plans to train over 10,000 postmen in using mobile-based live location tools. The DigiPIN system has been developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC ISRO.
Chief Post Master of Bihar Circle MU Abdali said that DigiPIN will significantly reduce delivery errors and ensure timely receipt of letters and parcels, even when the traditional address is incomplete.
