Patna: The Bihar government has approved three new road and bridge projects worth more than Rs 65 crore. Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary said the schemes, spread across Purnia, Bhagalpur and Vaishali districts, will make travel easier, boost trade and provide local people with new jobs.
In Purnia, the government has cleared Rs 22.61 crore to widen and strengthen a six-kilometre stretch of road from National Highway 107 to Kazi. Officials said work would begin once the tender process is completed, and the project would be handled by the road division’s executive engineer. The upgraded road is expected to reduce traffic pressure and make movement safer and faster.
Bhagalpur district will see the construction of a new high-level RCC bridge at Domnia Chowk on the Babupur–Bakharpur road. The bridge, which will be six spans of 21 metres each, will cost Rs 23.36 crore. A new approach road will also be built to connect it. The state bridge construction corporation has been given responsibility for the project, which will be completed in two phases by 2027. According to the deputy chief minister, the bridge will improve links between villages and towns and help farmers and traders move their goods more easily.
In Vaishali, a road between Goraul, Sondho and Mathnamal will be widened and strengthened at a cost of Rs 19.51 crore. Covering nearly 13 kilometres, the project aims to provide smoother travel for commuters, better links between markets and villages, and new employment opportunities during construction.
Choudhary said Bihar’s “double engine government” under chief minister Nitish Kumar has been consistently working to improve road and bridge infrastructure. He added that compared with 2005, the state now has a much larger and stronger road network. “These projects are part of our ongoing commitment to development,” he said. “Better roads and bridges mean faster journeys, safer travel and new chances for growth for the people of Bihar.”
