Bhagalpur: In a vibrant celebration on Maghi Purnima, Gonu Dham in Bhagalpur witnessed an exhilarating dance of strength as women wrestlers from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and various other places participated in a thrilling competition.
The event, organized under the Gonu Dham Maghi Puja Committee, drew a massive crowd of spectators, creating an electric atmosphere. This marked the first time that women wrestlers from diverse regions had converged in Bhagalpur, leaving a lasting impact on the local community.
The display of wrestling prowess inspired young girls in the village, sparking a newfound interest in the sport. Shivangi Singh of Buxar, motivated by the movie ‘Dangal,’ expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I was greatly influenced by the movie Dangal. It feels great to be here.”
The wrestling matches witnessed intense competition, with Roshni from Prayagraj emerging victorious by defeating Sadhna and clinching the title. The black panther from Maharashtra left a mark by defeating Deepak from Bihar, while Gama from Uttar Pradesh showcased remarkable performance, surprising everyone.
Laddu Yadav, president of the Dangal organized under Gonu Dham Maghi Puja Committee, highlighted the objective of the event, emphasizing the importance of keeping wrestling, a sport deeply rooted in the country’s soil, alive. He stated, “Our goal is to showcase wrestling talents from every corner of the country, allowing people to learn different techniques and contribute to winning Olympic medals in wrestling.”
Female wrestlers Sadhna Roshni and Shivani Shivangi, representing Maharashtra and Prayagraj, expressed their delight at the warm reception in Bihar. They commended the environment and the opportunity to compete with wrestlers from across the country, acknowledging the learning experience.
Roshni Pehalwan from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, conveyed her positive experience in Gonudham of Bhagalpur, praising the people and the committee. She emphasized the equality of women in sports and encouraged parents to support their daughters in pursuing their desired fields, breaking societal norms.
The Gonu Dham Maghi Puja Committee received heartfelt thanks from the participants, solidifying the success of the wrestling event and promoting the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.
