Patna: The monsoon has once again become active in Bihar, bringing widespread rainfall across several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 24 districts, including Patna, Kishanganj and Sheikhpura, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days.
According to the IMD, the state is likely to experience heavy rain between September 8 and 10, with the northwest, northeast and southwest regions expected to be most affected. The department has cautioned residents against unnecessary travel due to the risk of lightning, waterlogging, and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.
Heavy Rainfall in Several Districts
On Sunday evening, heavy rain lashed Patna, Kishanganj and Lakhisarai, while intermittent showers were reported in Supaul, Bettiah, Raxaul and Shivhar. The rainfall has already disrupted normal life in parts of the state, raising concerns of waterlogging in urban areas.
Rain Likely to Continue for Seven Days
The Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted that continuous rainfall may continue in Bihar from September 9 to 15. During this period, moderate to heavy rain is expected in many districts, while some areas may witness very heavy downpours. Lightning and strong winds are also likely, the IMD warned.
Reason Behind Weather Change
Meteorologists attributed the sudden shift in weather to a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal, which has now become active over northeast India. This has led to increased humidity in Bihar and the formation of dense monsoon clouds, triggering widespread rainfall.
Patna Weather Outlook
In the capital city, residents can expect daily rainfall for the next week. The IMD has predicted a drop in maximum temperatures, bringing relief from the prevailing humidity. However, prolonged rain may also lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Patna.
Meanwhile, Sheikhpura recorded the highest maximum temperature on Sunday at 36.2°C, while Patna, Nalanda and Darbhanga reported temperatures close to 35°C.
