Madhepura: A police station officer in Bihar’s Madhepura district has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The officer, identified as Mithai police station SHO Mitendra Kumar Mandal, was caught red-handed by the state vigilance bureau during a raid on Tuesday.
According to vigilance officials, the action was taken after a complaint was filed by a local resident, Vinod Kumar Mandal. The complainant alleged that the SHO had demanded money from him in return for extending help in a case. Following the complaint, a verification process was carried out by the vigilance team. Once the demand was confirmed, a raid team was formed and a trap was laid to catch the officer in the act.
DSP Sanjay Kumar Singh of the vigilance bureau said the SHO was arrested with clear evidence of receiving the bribe. After his arrest, he was taken to Saharsa for questioning. The details of the case were later disclosed at the circuit house there. Officials said further legal action is now being taken against him.
The vigilance bureau has been carrying out a series of operations across Bihar in recent months to curb corruption among government officers and employees. In several such cases, officers have been caught taking bribes ranging from small sums to large amounts. Authorities say these actions are part of a larger effort to restore public faith in government institutions, particularly the police force, which has often faced criticism for corruption.
The arrest of SHO Mitendra Kumar Mandal is the latest example of this ongoing crackdown. Vigilance officials have made it clear that such operations will continue, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty of demanding or accepting illegal money.
