Patna: Bihar Development Commissioner Dr. S. Siddharth highlighted the importance of Aadhaar as a tool for effective digital governance during a workshop in Patna on Wednesday. The event, organised by the Information Technology Department of Bihar, focused on “Aadhaar verification cum robust digital good governance.” Dr. Siddharth said that a correct Aadhaar number helps not only to identify beneficiaries accurately but also ensures that government schemes reach the right people on time.
The workshop brought together officials from the Information Technology Department, UIDAI, and various other Bihar government departments. Secretary of IT Department Abhay Kumar Singh, Special Secretary, and Deputy Director General of UIDAI also addressed the participants. Dr. Siddharth explained that Aadhaar verification has already helped cancel many fake ration cards in Bihar, showing its importance in maintaining transparency and accountability in government services.
Dr. Siddharth added that people often have multiple identification numbers, such as PAN, voter ID, and bank accounts, which can create confusion. Aadhaar provides a single, lifelong identity that can be used for different government schemes. He also pointed out problems in the education sector, where children are enrolled without Aadhaar or with incorrect details. Errors in names, dates of birth, parents’ names, and phone numbers often prevent children from receiving benefits under various welfare schemes. Accurate Aadhaar information from birth could prevent these issues and help the government serve children better.
IT Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh said that Aadhaar verification is important for all government departments. Bihar is among the top six states in India in terms of Aadhaar usage. Improving verification will make it easier to confirm certificates, deliver welfare schemes quickly, and save time for officials and citizens alike. The workshop concluded with discussions on how better Aadhaar management can strengthen digital governance and make the system more reliable for all residents of Bihar.
