Patna: A chilling discovery on Friday morning has sent shockwaves across Bihar after the mutilated bodies of a young man and a teenage girl were found on the railway tracks between Potahi and Neema on the Patna-Gaya line. Police say the deaths bear the hallmarks of an honour killing.
The victims were identified as Subodh Kumar, known locally as Loha Yadav, and a teenage girl he allegedly kidnapped and married six days earlier. Both bodies bore multiple injury marks, leading police to conclude that the pair were assaulted and killed before being left on the tracks.
Authorities confirmed that an FIR had been lodged against Subodh and two of his associates for kidnapping the girl. Shortly after, wedding photos of the couple surfaced on social media, enraging the girl’s family. Police believe this may have triggered the attack.
According to investigators, the girl’s relatives tracked Subodh to a rented house in Patna’s Ramakrishna Nagar. By the next morning, the couple’s bodies were discovered, mangled after several trains passed over them.
City SP (Eastern Region) said: “If someone dies by train accident, there cannot be injury marks all over the body. It appears they were first beaten and killed, then placed on the tracks. Final confirmation will follow the investigation.”
Subodh was no stranger to law enforcement, with multiple cases of robbery, theft and illegal arms possession against him. Police are also searching for two of his missing associates.
The discovery was first reported by a railway gang man, who alerted the station master and GRP. By the time police arrived, the bodies had been further mutilated as trains continued to pass. The gruesome incident has inflamed tensions between two neighbouring villages, with security tightened to prevent clashes.
