Patna: The monsoon has turned active in Bihar, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue rain alerts across the state. A yellow alert has been sounded in all 36 districts, including Patna, while an orange alert warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for West Champaran and Gopalganj.

According to the forecast, districts under yellow alert may experience winds of up to 40 km per hour along with lightning. The Met Department has urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.

Rainfall in the Last 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, Patna witnessed heavy rainfall, while intermittent showers were recorded in Nawada, Nalanda, Munger, Araria, Samastipur, and Jamui. Due to the continuous downpour, the maximum temperature in Patna dropped by 9 degrees Celsius, settling at 27.7°C, bringing much-needed relief from the humid conditions.

Meanwhile, flood conditions continue to worsen in Munger, where 33 panchayats across six blocks are affected, impacting over two lakh people. The Ganga River in the district is flowing just two centimeters below the danger mark. Rising water levels of the Ganga have heightened flood threats in Patna, Munger, Vaishali, and Bhagalpur, where residents are struggling with waterlogging and overflow.

Forecast for the Coming Days

  • September 18: Torrential rainfall is expected across large parts of North Bihar, while South Bihar is likely to see rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder.
  • September 19–20: Conditions are likely to gradually normalize, though light to moderate rainfall will continue in several districts.

Patna Weather Update

For the state capital, light to moderate rainfall is forecast today along with gusty winds and possible lightning strikes. The fall in maximum temperature has offered respite from the recent spell of sultry weather.

Met Department Advisory

The Meteorological Center has appealed to citizens to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid standing under trees to reduce the risk of lightning strikes. Farmers have been asked to exercise caution while working in fields during this period of unstable weather.
