Patna: A meeting of Bihar Road Safety Council was organized in the auditorium of the Main Secretariat on Monday under the chairmanship of Transport Department Minister, Vijay Kumar Choudhary. In the meeting, the works and schemes being done by Bihar Road Safety Council and various stakeholder departments for road safety were reviewed department-wise.
Appreciating the work being done by Bihar Road Safety Council regarding road safety, Transport Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said the Council is continuously making efforts to achieve its goal. This council will work even more effectively in the coming times.
Transport Minister Chaudhary said that road safety has become integral in human life. “Among the many issues challenging the state, road safety has emerged as an important challenge. With the increase in road and transport facilities, the risk of road accidents has also increased. Amidst these challenges, Bihar Road Safety Council is making efforts to control road accidents. Certainly, the collective efforts of all departments will reduce the risk of accidents in the state,” he said.
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Aggarwal said that in the year 2022, there was an increase of about 14 percent in road accidents and 16.2 percent increase in deaths, whereas in comparison to 2022, the number of road accidents in the year 2023 has increased by only 2 percent and deaths have also decreased.
Altogether 1,220 smart phones have been made available to the police headquarters for all police stations/OPs for on-spot entry of data and facts of road accidents in iRAd/eDaR. Through this, accurate information about the causes of road accidents and other details like location of the accident site, cause of the accident, number of victims etc. will be uploaded on the portal without any delay.
Modern technology like Control and Command Center is being used to control traffic violators. A higher number of road accidents have been observed on highways. In this regard, for strengthened highway patrolling, funds have been allocated to the police headquarters for the purchase of interceptor cum highway patrolling vehicles in the current financial year. Highway patrolling will be done on the highways by approximately 61 vehicles.
The transport secretary further highlighted the work done by Bihar Road Safety Council, compliance reports by stakeholder departments. Said that Rs 10,000 is being given as a mark of respect to encourage the Good Samaritans who help road accident victims.
On this occasion, State Transport Commissioner Vishal Raj, Special Secretary, Home Department KS Anupam, Superintendent of Police Traffic Ashok Kumar Chaudhary and representatives of stakeholder departments like Road Construction Department, Rural Works Department, Health Department, Education Department, Disaster Management Authority, NHAI etc. were present.
