Patna/Sasaram: The four-lane access-controlled highway from Patna to Sasaram via Bhojpur will be constructed by Gulfar Engineering and Construction Company, an Oman-based infrastructure firm, officials confirmed on Friday. This will be Bihar’s second such national highway after the Darbhanga expressway.
The 120 km project, overseen by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will be built in two phases. The first phase covers a 46 km stretch from Patna to Bhojpur, while the second will extend 74 km from Ara to Sasaram. Authorities said construction will begin once the financial closure report is submitted, a process expected to be completed within the next two months.
Designed as a greenfield, access-controlled corridor, the highway will allow limited entry and exit points, reducing accident risk and improving traffic flow. Officials said the new route will slash travel time between Patna and Sasaram from four hours to just two.
The road is expected to improve connectivity across Patna, Bhojpur, Arwal, Rohtas and Sasaram districts, while also providing a faster route from the state capital to Varanasi via the Grand Trunk Road. The project is scheduled for completion by 2028.
Passing through major national highways, including NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120, as well as linking state highways such as SH-2 and SH-81, the corridor is projected to ease both passenger and freight movement, significantly boosting regional infrastructure.
