Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several key projects under the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department, with a total investment of over Rs 839 crore. The event took place at Bihar Animal Science University (BASU) in Patna, where the Chief Minister launched 13 newly constructed university buildings, veterinary hospitals, training centres, dairy facilities, and fish markets across the state. The projects are aimed at improving infrastructure, supporting animal husbandry and fisheries, and boosting rural livelihoods.
During the inauguration, Nitish Kumar inspected the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology and the newly built hostels on the BASU campus. He visited laboratories, workshops, conference rooms, and accommodation facilities to ensure they were fully equipped with modern technology and resources for students and researchers. The Chief Minister also directed officials to strengthen security by raising boundary walls, install solar panels on new buildings, and plant more trees to create a green campus.
The projects include schemes worth Rs 362.58 crore for the Animal Husbandry sector, Rs 45.52 crore for fisheries development, and Rs 286.22 crore under COMFED for dairy and milk product plants. New fish markets are being built in 11 districts, and training centres for farmers and livestock owners are being expanded. These initiatives are designed to increase productivity, create employment, and provide modern training in animal husbandry and fisheries.
Nitish Kumar highlighted that these projects are part of the government’s plan to make Bihar self-reliant in animal and fisheries production while increasing the income of farmers and livestock owners. He stressed that the schemes would improve services, promote modern research, and strengthen the rural economy. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Animal and Fisheries Minister Renu Devi, and several senior officials from the state government and BASU were present at the event. A booklet detailing all the infrastructure schemes was also released to mark the occasion.
