Patna: Bihar is bracing for heightened political activity as the announcement of the state Assembly elections is expected after October 6. The Election Commission has instructed the state government to complete the transfer of officials and employees by this date, a move widely interpreted as a precursor to the poll schedule. A team led by the Chief Election Commissioner may visit Bihar in the coming days to monitor preparations. The current Nitish Kumar government’s term ends on November 22.
In a notable security reshuffle ahead of the elections, the Bihar government has upgraded BJP state president Dr Dilip Jaiswal’s protection to Y+ category, while reducing Purnia MP Pappu Yadav’s security from Y+ to Y category. The Special Branch of the Home Department made the changes following recommendations from the State Security Committee and threat assessment reports.
Meanwhile, former IPS officer and Hind Sena chief Shivdeep Lande announced that his party intends to contest the elections. Speaking to the media after inaugurating the party office at Zero Mile, Araria, Lande said the party has not yet decided on specific constituencies and is awaiting formal registration. “Even if the registration is not completed before the elections, we will contest,” he stated.
Political observers say the coming weeks are likely to see a flurry of announcements, alliances, and strategic repositioning as parties prepare for a tightly contested Assembly election in Bihar.
