Patna: Passengers using auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws in Patna will soon be able to scan barcodes to access details about their driver and vehicle, as part of new safety measures introduced by the city’s transport authorities.
The Patna Commissionerate announced that every permitted vehicle will be required to display a barcode, allowing both passengers and enforcement teams to verify information instantly. Drivers operating without one will face fines.
Officials said an online application system for new permits is being developed and will be launched shortly. Owners will be able to apply by zone through a dedicated portal, with full details to be published in newspapers. Each vehicle will be eligible for only one permit, though operators may apply for up to three routes within a zone. Exceptions will be allowed in cases of emergencies or when refuelling.
The move comes alongside the introduction of a new zone-based system designed to reduce congestion. Patna has been divided into yellow, blue and green zones, with a separate zone for reserved vehicles. Autos and e-rickshaws will be permitted to operate only within their designated zones in a bid to regulate traffic more effectively.
