Patna: The central government has released Rs 10,219 crore to Bihar under the Tax Devolution Scheme, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar calling the funds a timely boost for the state’s financial stability and development priorities.
The release, made on Vijayadashami, was welcomed by the state government as a “big gift” for Bihar’s people. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Ministry, saying the funds would be directed towards strengthening education, health, rural development and infrastructure projects.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed gratitude through a social media post.

Tax devolution allows the centre to share a portion of collected taxes with states, providing them greater autonomy in implementing development programmes. Experts said the Rs 10,219 crore allocation could prove crucial for Bihar’s ongoing road construction, social welfare schemes, and expansion of healthcare and education services.
Industrialists and traders in the state described the move as an opportunity to accelerate economic activity and generate employment. “If properly utilised, this funding could give a new direction to Bihar’s growth, strengthen rural areas and improve infrastructure,” said one business leader.
The funds follow GST reforms introduced by the centre, which state officials say have already benefitted Bihar. The latest release, they argue, will allow the government to push forward its development agenda ahead of the assembly elections.
