Purnia/Patna: A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Friday when three people were killed after being struck by the Vande Bharat Express near Jabanpur in Bihar’s Purnia district. Two others sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Purnia.
According to officials, the victims were returning from a Dussehra fair when the Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express hit them on the Katihar–Jogbani railway line. The incident drew a large crowd to the site, prompting rapid deployment of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and local police. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examinations, while an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.
This is the second fatal incident involving the Vande Bharat Express in Bihar in less than a week. On September 30, an elderly man was killed near the Hatiyagachi railway crossing in Saharsa.
The Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express, which was inaugurated on December 17, departs Jogbani at 3:25am, halts in Purnia at 4:50am, and proceeds through Saharsa, Khagaria, Samastipur and Muzaffarpur before reaching Danapur, Patna, around 11:30am.
