Patna: With millions of people expected to travel home during Diwali and Chhath Puja in 2025, Indian Railways has announced new rules for booking tickets on its online portal IRCTC to ease the festive rush.
From October 1, passengers whose Aadhaar is linked to their IRCTC account will get priority access during the first 15 minutes of the booking window. The rule applies from 10am to 10.15am for AC classes and from 11am to 11.15am for non-AC classes. Travellers without Aadhaar linkage will still be able to book once the 15-minute period has passed.
The booking window covers journeys from October 3 to December 2, allowing passengers to secure both onward and return tickets in advance for the festival season. Indian Railways has also announced special trains connecting major destinations in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Varanasi, Mau, Lucknow and Motihari.
Officials have advised passengers to link their Aadhaar well in advance to avoid difficulties during peak booking hours. Tickets can be booked through the IRCTC website or mobile app.
The move is expected to streamline the high seasonal demand, with millions travelling to their hometowns for family reunions during Diwali and Chhath.
